次にFigure 1の棒グラフでは、現在refractive surgery（前眼部光学部手術？）ではLASIK治療が90%を占めているが、今後のmarketの増加率としてはLASIKよりもPhakic IOLsや他のtechnologiesの方が大きいと予測している。

In a look at compound growth rates, the U.S. ophthalmic pharmaceuticals market (9% at $5.4 billion) continues to be in line with the global pharmaceuticals market (8% at $400 billion)-albeit a fraction of the size. In the surgical/medical device category, the U.S. refractive surgery market dropped about 12% last year, while contact lenses and ophthalmic surgeries rose 2% and 6%, respectively. Taylor noted that ophthalmic surgeries climbed about 10% outside of the United States."The global vision-care market continues to maintain an annual growth rate of 6% to 8% despite the economy, even though it may feel challenging in your office some days," Taylor said.
He added that a number of factors will continue to contribute to this sustained rate, including:
1.LASIK procedure volume that is experiencing an upturn, driven by custom ablation.
2.The recent FDA recommendation for approval with conditions of the Implantable Contact Lens (ICL, STAAR Surgical), and, in the near future, additional phakic and pseudophakic IOLs will augment options for cataract and refractive patients.
3.Less than 2% of the vision-wearing (spectacles and contact lenses) population has had a refractive procedure.
4.The specialty contact lens segment is growing, particularly in Japan.
5.As retinal implants come online, significant opportunities and treatments for retinal diseases will expand.
6.Advances in glaucoma and cataract procedures continue to grow.
...While LASIK dominates 90% of refractive procedures today, ophthalmologists can expect to see growth in other refractive options, such as phakic IOLs and clear lensectomy.
